Grapes of Wrath

After the burial, the family is forced to leave the boxcar. All except Al who stayed with the Wainwrights, the family who shared the boxcar with the Joad's.While on their Journey the Joads' find a barn which had a man and his young son inside. The son informs them that his father hasn't eaten for days. Rose of Sharon then asked to be left alone with the man, where she uses her breast milk to feed the man.

The once held together Joad family slowly falls apart at the end of the book. Tom is completely gone from the family after killing two men and had nothing else to do except be on the run. After that Rose of Sharon gives birth to a still born baby.
